Maddie was thrilled with her honorary captain role for Hingham High Girls Soccer.

Maddie’s Promise is a newly-formed foundation in honor of Maddie McCoy, Hingham Youth Soccer and Galway Rovers club soccer player. Sidelined by her illness from playing the sport she loved so much, the Hingham High girls soccer team made her an honorary captain last season. She passed away peacefully May 23, 2019 at the age of 11.

“Maddie loved sports and especially playing soccer. We had always hoped she'd play for Hingham High School someday. It meant so much to Maddie and us when the Hingham Varsity team made her an honorary captain last year. And now they have continued their amazing support, helping raise funds for research to help other kids like Maddie,“ says Ann and Steve McCoy, Maddie’s parents and Maddie’s Promise Founders.

The McCoy family is honored to be supported again by the Hingham High Soccer program. Along with the generous support of South Plymouth High Soccer, Hingham High Soccer will host the Boys and Girls Double Header Event on October 4th. Hingham Youth Soccer has set an audacious goal of $50K in support of Maddie’s Promise. The foundation’s mission: to provide funding for rare pediatric cancer offering the most promise.

“The treatment for rhabdomyosarcoma has not significantly evolved in decades. With many breakthroughs in adult cancers in recent years, most people don’t realize little is being offered to children with rare cancers. Currently just 4% of all research funds go to pediatric cancer and change is long overdue,” shared Ann and Steve McCoy.

About Maddie’s Promise

Full of determination, eleven-year-old Maddie McCoy made a promise even after sarcoma slowed her down. She spent her last few months making artwork to sell to help other kids with cancer and the homeless she saw while driving to treatment. Her sisters and friends took her promise on, selling art creations at pop-up stands to raise money. Inspired by Maddie’s creativity, courage and kindness, Maddie’s Promise is a rally cry to close the funding gap for rare pediatric cancer research, bringing hope to children like Maddie.
